イワシ (Sardine) - 20.5in x 11.5in

Canned sardines were a staple found in the cupboards of my grandmother's house.  She ate them as any proper Briton would, on a slice of buttered toast with tea.  Sardines are found in the humblest kitchen cupboards to the finest pantries in top restaurants around the globe.  Few fish are as ubiquitous or as delicious. 

This brilliantly colored sardine is depicted on handmade mulberry-based rice paper with oil-based ink and finished with lightfast pigments. Wet mounted for rigidity and archival stability.  This is a one of a kind original artwork.
